Happy Birthday Jobim!

Bluely Noted’s Jobim tribute continues with 3 videos of Ella Fitzgerald performing in a live setting. After a few cachaças, we’re pretending it’s our party. Ella swings hard throughout these performances from ‘63, ‘66 and ‘69, with each becoming progressively looser, as if all she needs are Jobim’s melodies — the lyrics can be dispensed with entirely. Bluely Noted’s favorite Ella is live, where she can fully embrace spontaneity and improvisation. A voice of the gods doesn’t need strings and lush orchestras — just the tunes of the angels.
